The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to transforming both the transport and healthcare sectors. With Phase 2 of the Lagos Blue Rail Line on track for completion and the launch of biometric card readers under the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA), the state is working toward a smarter, safer, and more connected future. The Managing Director of LAMATA, Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, revealed that over 4 million passengers have been transported on the Blue Line since 2023. She confirmed that Phase 2 will commence operations by the first quarter of 2027. During a site inspection across Marina and Mile 2, she emphasized the state’s dedication to integrated, multimodal transport systems — combining rail, BRT, ferry, and non-motorized options. Both locations are undergoing infrastructure upgrades. At Marina, walkways, cycle parks, and landscaping are being developed to improve access and comfort for commuters. At Mile 2, the team inspected ongoing interchange works. The MD noted that the two interchanges are expected to be delivered by the end of 2026 or early 2027. The Mazamaza bridge has proven to be the most complex segment. Existing foundation obstructions are slowing piling work, but over 36 out of 66 piles are already done. Despite delays, the substructure is targeted for completion by year-end. Currently, 72 services run daily at 18-minute intervals. The target is to reduce this to every 10 minutes during peak hours. The MD stressed the importance of public cooperation: No littering, no crossing tracks, and no damaging infrastructure. Lagosians are urged to treat the Blue Line as public property and a symbol of pride — the first electric metro system in sub-Saharan Africa. The Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) has rolled out biometric card readers at 100 healthcare facilities. Integrated with the LASRRA database, the new system ensures that only genuine enrollees access care. The new LAG ID card can now be used as: The next rollout phase will include biometric fingerprint access to care — further simplifying patient verification at public and private hospitals. St. Nicholas Hospital and General Hospital Lagos both applauded the initiative, calling it a “timely and innovative solution.” Administrators highlighted the reduced paperwork, faster patient service, and secure payments — all with a single card. Officials noted this project is a major step toward achieving universal health coverage in Lagos State. The Lagos State Government, through LAMATA and LASHMA, is demonstrating that integrated infrastructure and digital transformation are key to improving urban life. From rail to healthcare, Lagos is building a smarter, more connected future — one project at a time. Remember: Respect public infrastructure, obey safety rules, and use your LASRRA ID for secure healthcare access.Lagos Blue Rail Line Phase 2 Set for 2027 Launch, LASHMA Unveils Biometric Healthcare Upgrade
